Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions dental offices ask us most about training, CE, your portal and the CALM Compliance System™.
Scheduling your trainingCE units and certificatesMissed training and new team membersYour portal and ongoing compliancePricing, payment and plans
Scheduling your training
Do you offer training in person or on Zoom?
Both. We can come to your office or teach your team live on Zoom, whichever works best. If most of your team is in person but one person needs to join remotely, let us know ahead of time and we'll send a Zoom link.
How long is the training?
The annual OSHA course is 2 hours. Add Infection Control and it becomes a 3-hour session. Courses that include the California Dental Practice Act run 4 hours, and we also offer a 5-hour session covering OSHA, Infection Control and the Dental Practice Act together.
When should we schedule next year's training?
Now is a great time. Most offices book next year's date when they finish this year's training. Just tell us which day of the week works best for your team and whether you want in-person or Zoom.
What times are available?
We teach weekdays between 9am and 5pm, and Zoom sessions can start as early as 8:30am.
Can you walk through our office and tell us what needs to change?
Yes. Every CALM membership trained in person includes a 1-hour walkthrough before your course. CALM Compliance Covered™ adds a written assessment and action plan, and CALM Compliance Complete™ includes a full assessment plus a mid-year follow-up visit. Walkthroughs are especially helpful when you open a new location or remodel, since a new space usually means updating your Exposure Control Plan, IIPP and Workplace Violence Prevention Plan.
CE units and certificates
Are your courses approved for CE?
Yes. Dental Ed is an approved provider with the Dental Board of California (RP3101) and AGD PACE (Provider ID #310218).
How many CE units will my team earn?
It depends on the course: OSHA (2 hours) earns 2 units. OSHA + Infection Control (3 hours) earns 3 units: 2 Infection Control and 1 OSHA. OSHA + California Dental Practice Act earns 2 OSHA and 2 Dental Practice Act units.
Why did we get Infection Control units one year and Dental Practice Act units the next?
California license renewal requires both Infection Control and California Dental Practice Act units every renewal cycle. Many offices alternate, covering Infection Control one year and the Dental Practice Act the next, so licensed staff stay current on both.
How do we get our certificates?
After the training, each attendee completes a short course evaluation and their certificate is emailed to them directly. If your office prefers that certificates go to a manager, just tell us who your point of contact is.
I lost my certificate. Can you send a copy?
Yes. We keep records of every course your office has taken. Email us with your name and office and we'll send a duplicate, which is handy when you need proof of the Dental Practice Act for an x-ray or other certification course.
Missed training and new team members
A team member missed our Infection Control or Dental Practice Act training. What should they do?
They can take the same course on demand on our website: Infection Control or California Dental Practice Act. Make-up courses are included for CALM members. Send us their full name and email so we can record their completion with your office.
What if the person who missed it isn't licensed?
Unlicensed staff (for example, a sterilization technician) can join your ongoing in-office training with the rest of the team. Have them watch the new employee training video, document that they watched it, and confirm they're following your infection control and instrument processing protocols. The Dental Board of California also requires unlicensed clinical staff to complete an 8-hour Infection Control course.
We just hired someone. What OSHA paperwork do they need?
Every new employee needs a completed new employee OSHA file. Email us and we'll send the current onboarding forms; your new hire should also watch the new employee training video.
Our office manager is leaving. How do we transfer access?
Tell us who the new point of contact is. We'll update our records, send them the portal login and your Google Drive compliance folder, and make sure nothing falls through the cracks.
Your portal and ongoing compliance
Can I call you with compliance questions?
Yes. Every CALM membership includes calling or emailing our team anytime, so you always have someone to ask when a question comes up. CALM Compliance Covered™ and CALM Compliance Complete™ members also get faster responses and help if an inspector visits.
How do I log in to the portal?
Go to dentaledinc.com/login. Your account is set up under your office email. If you haven't set a password yet, or your setup link expired, click "Forgot password?", enter that email, and use the reset link right away (it expires quickly). Check your spam folder if it doesn't arrive within a few minutes.
Where do I find this month's safety topic, and what do I do with it?
The current month's safety topic is in your portal, so you don't need to pick one. Review it with your team at your monthly meeting, have everyone sign the safety meeting log, and file the signed log in the Ongoing Training Records folder of your Google Drive binder. Cal/OSHA expects documented monthly safety meetings, not just annual training.
Is Workplace Violence Prevention training required every year?
Yes. California SB 553 requires annual Workplace Violence Prevention training. Your team can complete ours on demand and earn CE, then review your office's Workplace Violence Prevention Plan together. Workplace Violence Prevention and HIPAA training are included in every CALM membership.
Do we need a new OSHA flip chart this year?
CDA usually releases the updated flip chart in the spring. Until it arrives, you can also post the OSHA posters your payroll company sends as an extra safeguard.
How do we properly dispose of sharps and pharmaceutical waste?
It depends on your setup: whether you use a pickup service or isolysers for sharps, and whether you have a pharmaceutical waste container. We confirm this for every office when we build your OSHA protocols so your manual matches what you actually do.
Pricing, payment and plans
Does in-person training cost more than Zoom?
Only for offices more than 50 miles from Poway, CA. Within 50 miles, in-person and Zoom training are the same price; beyond that, we add a travel fee for in-person training.
How do we pay?
After you book, we email a confirmation with a secure online payment link. If your office prefers an invoice, just ask. When two offices train together in one session, the second office receives a partner discount.
What's included in each CALM tier, and what does it cost?
Every CALM Compliance System™ membership includes your annual live training with CE, a custom OSHA manual rewritten every year, on-demand HIPAA and Workplace Violence Prevention training, make-up courses for missed staff, a new-hire kit, monthly safety topics, and the ability to call or email us anytime. The tiers differ in how much we do for you:
Foundation™ ($2,400/year or $239/month): best for most offices.
